Manuel Belo

Lisboa, Portugal

The characteristics of the vacant building and the small proportions of the lot presented themselves as the main challenge of this project. Given the living conditions of the pre-existing habitation typologies, the central idea of the project consists in the design of a patio/ lobby, which has the double function of guaranteeing the ventilation and natural lighting of the spaces located inside the previously non-existent lot. As a result of this configuration, the two apartments develop vertically, creating volumetric contrasts that configure new spatial relations. The proposed interventions on the roof will not imply significant modifications to the existing volumetry, thus safeguarding the morphology of the urban complex of the historic centre of Carnide.
